A Montana ranching family faces off against others who are encroaching on their land. Forry J. Smith, who plays Lloyd, has a background in the rodeo world. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to «forget» his Montana accent and reverts to the SoCal voice he usually uses.. Featured in WatchMojo: Top 10 Summer TV Shows That Aren’t on Your Radar (2018). (Review is for the first two seasons only) I went into this series not expecting to like it, but the story, acting, and cinematography are on point. It’s basically Montana mob wars with a huge dose of testosterone (cowboys with rifles on horseback while fishing)! Costner is a great actor in the lead role of Dutton. The series is at its best when it portrays a chessboard that the Duttons and their enemies move around. The show goes on hiatus early in the second season, but picks up midway through. Kelsey Asbill is the weakest link as Monica and she plays poorly, the story is clumsily thrown out, and the acting just misses the mark. I think Cole Houser as Rip is probably the strongest acting (besides Costner himself) and I look forward to any scenes Rip is in. Thomas Rainwater is also excellent. The story is loud and the scenery is beautiful. Just as Cormac McCarthy’s «All The Pretty Horses» was a bit more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this show works in a similar way. I highly recommend it and wish I hadn’t waited so long to watch it.
